Old Perithia, also known as the ghost village, has in the later years become one of the most popular places to visit in Corfu. It was built in the 14th century in the Pantokrator mountainsides, well-protected from the pirate attacks, it was at the time buzzing with life and wealth, as the inhabitants dealt mainly with farming lands and livestock.
With the rise of tourism, the locals began to leave the mountain, headed for the more popular coastal resorts, until the village was fully abandoned. In the later years the village has seen a slight revival and there are restaurants serving local specialities, for those of you wishing to stop for lunch.
To complete the tour, you visit the village of Kassiopi, an important trading port for centuries. Today, it is one of the most picturesque fishing villages dotting the North of the island, with its rolling hills, imposing fort and most spectacular views of the North-East channel.
